our houses are haunted, dark and deserted
they're made of my secrets and shame
they're made of my secrets and shame
It wasn't an easy task, for a foreigner to procure themselves a living quarters so soon, especially if you're unfamiliar with the native tongue of the country you're in. All in all, unless you're accompanied by a tour guide, you're definitely be better off not leaving your own home. In Jinny's case, however, she knew this trip wasn't going to be a walk in the park from the get-go, and being the tough-as-nails exorcist that she was, of course she wouldn't just give up. Rigid living conditions, days without food and water, she'd expected all of it, and she was willing to deal with it without so much as a single complaint.
This was her only lead. It was her only chance to redeem herself, to reacquire the honor and pride of her family's hard work. To restore the name of the Yu family to its former glory. To soothe the souls of her family members, all of which have been brutally slaughtered by the malicious spirits. It is undoubtedly a valid point if one were to argue that vengeance has clouded the young girl's mind, but what would you expect if everything were to suddenly be taken away from you? If everyone you knew and loved, vanishes before your very eyes, leaving you behind with nothing more than painful memories, constantly reminding you of what once was, persistently shoving depressing thoughts into your head like 'Why didn't you take me with you?' and the like. Most people would break down, cry their lungs out and that'll be the end of them.
Most people.
For anyone with a heart, it was unmistakably a sad sight to behold when a girl has to resort to living in the streets, but they didn't know her story. They didn't know she chose the life she's living now. Hell, even if they did, she had no need for pity. Despite her grandparents' constant warnings that, as mediums, they'd be easy target for both the mischievous and malicious spirits, she couldn't really help but to spend her night out in the open. Of course, she'd be stupid if she were to do it unprotected, so that's why she always has her mother's protective charm with her. It was the only piece of memory she had of her family, made all the more important by how it was her mother's last gift to her, aside from the times they've spent together.
But living out in the open wasn't all that bad. It was winter, and though it gets a bit cold at night, there weren't much bugs, and some of the scenery was actually quite beautiful. On this particular evening, she chose to spend it around a random street in Osaka, where old buildings mixes with new structures to form a harmonious mashup. It kind of reminds her of the yin-yang concept, where there must be a balance of good and evil in the world. In a way, that concept applied to her job fairly well, seeing as she's one of the few remaining people in the world who actually trained from young to do this.
She hadn't packed much with her. Just a few changes of clothes, some money- which she still hadn't used because she's far too cheap to start buying things, and scrolls. The contents of the scrolls are what you'd expect from old Chinese martial arts movies, except it wasn't magical and you'd have to learn everything from scratch. Her bed was to be a wooden bench, and her pillow the bench's armrest. It wouldn't be good for her neck when she wakes up in the morning, but she's had much worse. And plus, being dead tired feels blissful, because you'd be able to sleep anywhere without caring what surface you're laying on.
