BEGINNER'S GUIDE.
SITE SUMMARY. Summer Haze is a laid-back supernatural roleplay. Supernatural as in extraordinary things happening in an ordinary world. Japan was no different than it is in the real. Then suddenly creatures now known as oddities attacked. People have acquired gifts. Some have learned how to deal with both of those. Plotting on Summer Haze means roleplaying the life of an individual living their life with strange and mysterious events happening within the same country they live in.
CHARACTER CREATION. The first step to creating a character is to grab the character template and make the character. That can all be done in this thread. When creating a character you will need to know what group your character is part of, where they live or where they are staying in japan and their occupation. You should also have a face claim ready. Face claims can also be reserved here.
Groups and terminology will be explained below. But if you do choose to be anything beyond a normal human please be warned that you will need to do a bit more work. Read the guides on Oddities, Gifted Persons and Priests/Monks. Then read the Specialty guide.
Any questions, problems or suggestions can be posted here.
GROUPS. Characters fall into four major categories:
OCCUPATIONS. We are just two steps away from being a school roleplay. Characters here are normal individuals. At the earliest, anyone that has any supernatural traits has only gained them within the last month. Before the Haze fell upon japan, your characters were students, workers, teachers, etc. Your character will go to school, or to work or socialize with others characters. They're living a life.

GROUPS. Characters fall into four major categories:
- Oddities: An entity that should not exist in this world. These are supernatural beings that refer to spirits, gods, demons and monsters of stories and legends. However, if a character is called an Oddity, that means that they have been turned into an Oddity to some degree, or they have been afflicted with the effects of an Oddity.
- Medium/Gifted Person: These two titles are interchangeable. These are characters who have acquired unusual abilities after performing extreme or desperate acts.
- Monk/Priest: These are characters who through cleverness and wit have learned to banish Oddities and to revert those individuals that transform into Oddities. They learn how to use talismans and seals, and through experience they try to learn about as many Oddities as possible.
- Normal Person: 99% of the people in Japan are normal. These individuals likely do not know that Oddities exist, and Oddities will usually ignore them. Usually.

TERMINOLOGY.
- HAZE: This is not something that can be seen. It is a metaphorical reference to the sudden arrival of various phenomenon in Japan. That includes the appearance of Oddities and the sudden creation of Gifted individuals. In idle conversation most people that have been influenced by these events will say that a Haze, or refer to a Haze that has taken over the island country.
- CURSE: Curses are placed mostly by Oddities, but any abnormal character can place one on another character. A curse is an effect that burdens the person afflicted with it. When an Oddity finds an individual they like or that they are lured to, they will usually place some curse on them. Exception would be cases like vampires wherein it's a little different.
- WEAKNESS: These come up often. The staff of Summer Haze would like for this site to be plot rich. That requires that characters not be flawless juggernauts. That is why we emphasize, and sometimes require, that you give your characters weaknesses. A weakness is a flaw in the character, mental or physical.
- JAPAN: The setting of Summer Haze. While characters can travel the world, and some Oddities will do the same, most of the events of the site will stay in Japan.
