@kotone finally got this up. i'm pretty bad at starters lol ● | Being practically deaf made a lot of jobs a bit harder than they should’ve been. Talia knew how to get by; it wasn’t difficult, but of course losing one’s senses was always something that one would have wanted to prevent if they could. When her hearing had disappeared a few weeks before, at the start of the summer, she thought it would come back eventually. But days went by and it never did. In that short time, she had to simply adopt the label of being deaf. When she told her boss she had lost her hearing, she had sense the hesitation. It was somewhat reasonable, albeit a little ignorant, to believe it may hinder the quality of her service. It hadn’t, but she had to make some minor accommodations. Her co-workers usually took the large parties while Talia was stuck with the smaller ones, they were easier to handle. She made it work and she was doing just as well as she had been before, maybe even better. It was only slight, but there was something different and something that had actually enhanced her performance. She supposed it was true that when you lose one sense all the other senses take over to make up for it. Of course, it came with some things that were rather annoying. She was over sensitive to things such as light and touch, which made stubbing her toe way more painful than it would be for anybody else. But, hey, she couldn’t complain (too much). She could complain about how lifeless it was in the restaurant today. She could count on one hand how many parties she had served today, and maybe if she had a few more, she could count how many in all had actually came in but were served by others. To be reasonable, it had been raining relentlessly and that would account for why the most popular place in the largest city in Japan was so silent today. It did give her the chance to simply sit and relax, however. She had found a booth near one of the windows. Her arm was resting on the window sill and she leaned back in the seat. Her eyes were glued outside, watching the rain come down and the people scurry back and forth with their umbrellas above their head. She had a few hours ‘till her shift ended, but maybe her boss would be nice enough to let her go home earlier. It was way too dreary to be sitting here with nothing to do. |
